Ms. Lara Hauer, MA in TESOL, PhD Candidate in TESOL, Eduling Teacher, IELTS Examiner wrote a short reflection on a 24-week writing course with Eduling. The students also shared their reflection on the course.

Inside B Writing from Eduling International Academy gives students many opportunities to write about a variety of topics and in different genres. This term started with a cause-effect essay, followed by summaries, letters to the editor (an argumentative essay in the form of a letter), and literary responses. These longer writing assignments allow us to use the entire writing process, from prewriting to publishing. Some of the topics for letters to the editor (expressing and supporting our opinion) were the school uniform requirement, the COVID vaccine requirement, bilingualism, same-sex marriage, and responses to articles from the news. In addition, students wrote about weekly journal prompts related to the genre of writing we were working on. These allowed them to write frequently and more freely than the structured essays. Overall, students in this class have improved their writing in terms of content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, coherence, developing and supporting ideas, flexibility, and creativity. Our Wednesday morning classes gave us the chance to talk about what we were writing and have some fun with Google Jamboard and Kahoot quizzes. It was a productive 24-week session.
Inside B Writing từ Eduling International Academy tạo nhiều cơ hội cho học sinh viết về các chủ đề và thể loại bài viết khác nhau. Lớp bắt đầu với bài viết về nguyên ngân về kết quả và sau đó chuyển sang các bài tóm tắt, thư tới biên tập viên báo chí (thực chất là dạng bài nghị luận về một vấn đề xã hội), và bài cảm thụ văn học. Những bài viết lớn này giúp học sinh làm theo quy trình viết đầy đủ từ phát triển ý và lập kế hoạch viết đến hoàn thiện bài viết để đăng bài và chia sẻ. Ngoài ra, học sinh viết bài viết ngắn thường xuyên mỗi tuần với những chủ đề khác nhau. Những bài viết ngắn này giúp các em viết thường xuyên và tự do hơn so với các bài viết lớn. Nhìn chung, học sinh trong lớp đã tiến bộ về phát triển ý, tổ chức bài viết, ngữ pháp, từ vựng, mở rộng và kết nối ý, và viết một cách linh hoạt và sáng tạo. Lớp học hàng tuần cũng giúp học sinh và giáo viên thảo luận về những chủ đề của các bài viết và có những thời gian vui vẻ cùng nhau qua các hoạt động Google Jamboard vào trò chơi Kahoot. Đây thực sự là một kì học có nhiều thành công của các em!

Here are some student reflections on their writing and the course.
I listen to every class very carefully and I consciously complete homework. I have improved my writing a lot since I joined this course. For example, I can write more vivid and creative poems and essays than before. I followed the writing process because it helps me to be good at writing and practice carefulness to have a good product and attract more readers. I want to write in my own room and in the morning. I learned a lot of things in this class that I will use what I learned in the future. I learned how to write, to communicate with each others. I think that I can use my writing and speaking to go abroad in the future. (Huong Anh)
I love essays because I never knew how to write an essay before. I’ve been mixed up then, but then I improved. I completed the journals by my own way, and it turned out well. My goals were to improve essays and accomplish the Letter to the Editor essay. (Bao Quang)
My strength is in Literature Response because I read a lot of books so in my view, I have a lot of knowledge about young adult’s stories, encyclopedias, etc. But I think I still have some trouble with the Letter to the Editor essay because I don’t know much about society so I can’t write much about it and I think a letter to the editor needs to be formal but I don’t know much about how to write a formal letter. After attending this writing course, I learned many things like my mistakes in grammar, types of writing, how to write about different subjects, etc. (Ngoc Van)
